Green Maple Leaves
The delicate green leaves of the deciduous Japanese Maple (Acer palmatum) provide a canopy of cool shade in summer. Swedish doctor and botanist Carl Peter Thunberg gave the species its epithet "palmatum" after the hand-like shape of its leaves during his travels to Japan in the 1700's.
