The Arum Lily (Zantedeschia aethiopica) is a native of South Africa. Despite its brilliant white spathe surrounding a central yellow spadix it is considered a poisonous weed in many parts of the world. The genus is named in tribute to Giovanni Zantedeschi (1773-1846), an Italian physician and an Italian botanist who published ten works on the flora of the Province of Brescia in northern Italy.
