The traditional Christmas pudding, served with brandy sauce at Christmas, is filled with tradition as the recipe passes from one family generation to the next. In medieval times, it was prepared with 13 ingredients to represent Christ and the 12 apostles, and every family member stirred it in turn from east to west on Stirring Sunday to honor the three wise men. Silver sixpence coins were mixed in and the lucky person who was served a coin kept it and supposedly had wealth in the coming year.
